    Chriso:
That was an interesting post, I have never heard of this before but then again I have a very healthy
dislike and complete disrespect for that unionist rag, The Daily Mush.
Spin or not, a fact is a fact and most Scots seem to have a good built-in bullsheet detector and as
Burns once said, (can't believe I'm about to quote Burns, whatever next  ),
"Facts are chiels that winna ding". For a further explanation, click on to this:

Feel free to read it all but I'm only trying to draw your attention to the first paragraph.
Most people will find the full article boring but others will find it interesting.
I've not had a chance yet to look further into this "perception management" but I will.
First things first though, I've got a weekend to try and enjoy.
Will catch up with everyone Sunday/Monday, Am aff tae the bookies tae pit ma coupin oan.

    Any certainties fur me?
Any way Richard, here's David Baldacci's full qoute on perception management.

    AUTHOR’S NOTE
The term “perception management” has firmly entered the public lexicon. The Department of Defense even defines perception management in one of its manuals, so the military folks obviously take it very seriously. Many public relations firms now offer perception management, or “PM,” as one of their services. However, it seems that not many of them do it very well. Apparently, if you want to be exceptional at creating the Big Lie, you really need to specialize in it.
PMs are not spin doctors because they don’t spin facts. They
    create
facts and then sell them to the world as the truth.
And that, to quote the venerable Mark Twain (who would’ve had a field day with the PM guys), is the difference between the lightning bug and lightning.
Many of the techniques outlined in the story are standard operating procedures for these folks, even if I give them a different rubric. And by using these methods, a major untruth can be established so quickly and overwhelmingly across the world that no digging by anyone after the fact can make a dent in the public consciousness that it actually isn’t true at all.
And that’s precisely what makes it so dangerous.
    Idiot - seeks village.

    AYE...Scottish Independence.

Only time I touch the horses is, maybe, a punt on the grand national ?
It's a football coupon I do and it's usually a case of sticking a pin in the coupon,
    whilst blindfolded
I try not to touch Scottish games but the full SPL card this weekend looks a good bet for
sticking a couple of pound on ALL this weekends SPL games coming up as draws.
There, I've just stuck my neck on the line.
    Tarra fur noo, folk's.

Only the Scottish people can answer this question. I am still to be convinced that it would be a good move for Scotland. What really Ps me off though, is the number ofJeremiahs who wring their hands and claim that Scotland could not survive on its own, what rubbish. The world is populated by Scots Ex Pats, trail blazers and entrepreneurs who have all succeeded in building the new world. There is no question in my mind, that Scotland COULD most certainly go it alone, but whether we should. ??????? I remain to be convinced.

I think it is time we got the oil drilling started in earnest.

I canny believe we are paying the amount we are for petrol - this is highway robbery.

The Scots shouldn't sell the oil abroad and then by it back at an inflated cost to sell to its own people.

How many times are we going to be hoodwinked by corrupt politicians running their own agenda over the oil?

I remember when they were selling the importance of oil drilling and how us Scots would be able to buy it at 1p a gallon - that never happened.

It's time we had independence and got away from Europe and supporting these MEP's in luxury - with our taxes.

Feel better now that I got that off my chest.

    Hi Tapnagol,

The list of Scots trailblazers is a long one; Logie-Baird, Dunlop, McAdam, Lister, Napier, Watt, Carnegie, Graham-Bell, Flemming, to name a few. All from the 19th century; all yesterdays world.

Could you name me a few from the last 50 years?

    JD.

Well there's plenty authors, artists, entertainers but on the more academic side how about James W. Black?

At one time I would have said Yes but not
living there for many years I am undecided
at the moment but when I was back on holiday
the Flower of Scotland song stirred my blood as
    it did my late husband.
