Nice one PT. You've had some good ship photos from your walks along the river bank.

Thanks Mitchy. I see the Waverley on a fairly regular basis during the summer. I had a look on a tracking site after I saw her and she berthed at Kilcreggan, Dunoon and Rothesay before returning to Glasgow. Incidentally, I just use my mobile phone camera.

    Alan,

The White Cart and the Black Cart join to become the River Cart but they are much further up river at Renfrew. I'm not sure what you're seeing? There are one or two possibilities but I need some more information. If you are crossing Erskine Bridge from Erskine towards Old Kilpartick is the water you're seeing on your right or left and the Erskine side or the Old Kilpatrick side of the Clyde?

And the AIS site is the one I use to track shipping. At this moment, for example, the Waverley is doing 13.4 knots at the south tip of Arran and her destination is Glasgow, so I could see her again this evening if I wanted to.

    Hi PT,

If you've ever wondered what's overhead when you're out for a walk and there's ni shipping about have a look at http://www.flightradar24.com/ It is quite frightening just how many aircraft are up there at any given time.

And just for a laugh check your knowledge of "European" geography at http://www.lufthansa-vp.com/vp1/play.html

    Alan,

Your Google Map is not focused on anything in particular but It will be the Forth and Clyde Canal you've been looking down on. It ends at Bowling, situated a couple of miles towards Dumbarton on the North side of the River Clyde.

Just as an aside the canal passes through an area in Maryhill called BOTANY (pronounced locally as BUT-NI). It's suggested by some that it's so called because this was the starting point for prisoners being transported from Glasgow Prisons to Botany Bay in Australia. They were apparantly conveyed in barges to Bowling where they were then taken out to the large sailing ships which were anchored in the middle of the tidal river.
