Nice to see Kilwinning on the site again.
Just read the part about the Knight Templars and the Holy Grail, now i do believe that there is a strong rumour that the Holy Grail is actually hidden somewhere in Kiwinning, has anybody heard the same. 8)

Hi Hughie/Johnboy,
Yes i have seen those articles about the Holy Grail being in Kilwinning.Don't think much of the author J A Morton though. Is that the author that wrote "The De Vinci Code."Sorry that was Dan Brown.

I thought when the Knights Templar left Jerusalem they went to Africa ,and the Holy Grail was hidden there.

The link to A J Morton's webpage ,has an article about "Excavations at Kilwinning - Irvine Herald" this is where we "looked about "after the Saturday matinees c 1953.We always surmised that it was where the monks lived. At that time the Green was not tarred over ,and was more a neglected space,as the old houses were gone by then. I think it was covered over to protect it when they made the car park.In saying that i wonder if the old houses had cellers ,and that is were we were .

Just for the record, I've never conducted any research on the Holy Grail, nor have I attempted to link it with Kilwinning Abbey. This is an old rumour that I thought had died out! :secret:

Ellen

To memory Ellen they went back to Cyprus first and then France mostly, where the French king and his puppet Pope in France had most of them wiped out and their property confiscated. A number escaped to Scotland under some protection of the Scottish king, (who with his countrymen was in excommunication in one of the occasional episodes orchestrated and paid for by the English kings), and Kilwinning was one of their bases. QUESTION.

Does anybody actually know what the holy grail is? If so , what is it made off, would it have survived down the centuries?
My dictionary says it was a cup or chalice used by Jesus at the last supper and in which Joseph of Arimathea received the last drops of Jesus blood at the cross.

or

One's ultimate goal.

I would have thought at the last supper all the cups were the same. No doubt the washing up was done,so who would knew which one belonged to Jesus. This was before anybody knew Jesus was going to be arrested. Of all things that were near the cross, one of those cups just happened to be up there and it also happened to be the same one Jesus used. How was it known that was the cup he used. I would also suspect they had the last supper in an inn of some sort or perhaps a house. I would doubt very much if poor people had 13 chalices to put out in those days. If it was made of wood, would it still have suvived to this day being almost 2000 years old.

Wee Boney,
I agree with that.I don't think it would have been a high status place ,and the meal would surely have been of common place. One thing i would love ,is to view all the archives in the Vatican.
