    SC,

If you zoom into the historical map on this site you get the layout of the houses, albeit they're referred to us Burtonholm.

I'm beginning to think that no photograph exists?

Thanks for all your help guys
Sadly I have to agree it appears no photos exist although I remember and Uncle had a photo of a football team based there.
I know there were a least 3 rows of houses imaginately named Front row, Middle Row and Back Row and I had family in them all. Bartonholm people seemed to marry other Bartonholm people too.

    Marty/Ellen,

Isn't it amazing too that such a small and obviously under-privileged community, in addition to producing a Scottish International football player, also produced 3 Scottish Amateur Golf Champions - Hammy McInally (three times winner); Jack Cannon and Jimmy Walker, the latter going on to play for Britain in the Walker Cup. In addition there was Sam Haswell who reached the quarter final of the British Amateur Championship.

Goodness knows how they would afford clubs as young boys but they must certainly have been sneaking into the adjacent Ravenspark and Bogside courses to practice.

Irvine (Bogside) Golf Club, incidentally, has named its 15th hole "BARTONHOLM" and listed that "it takes name from the row of miners cottages which were visible from the tee".

I wonder if there are any photographs available through the Golf Club?

I met Jimmy Walker through my work. He was a foreman joiner at the Camphill water treatment plant at the time, and I worked on the same site.
I also played golf with him at Ardeer golf club during the golf week, which is held every year. He was telling me he played Jack Nicklaus and Jimmy's own words were
" I teed off and hit a good drive right up the middle and thought to myself, let's see what you can do Jack. Jack then proceded to hit a drive and it was still rising when it passed my ball"
He also told me he got a Christmas card from Jack every year.
    Idiot - seeks village.

    PT ,
Thought they must have been sneeking into the golf coarses. Was not sure myself what club had the Bartonholm hole .
Says 57 families ,so don't think they would be many more houses.

Actually folks. I am a Haswell and there were 6 brothers who all played excellent golf. I have had cousins and an Uncle involved at Bogside as well of course at Ravenspark. So I think if they had any they were aware of they would have known since they know how much I want to add to my knowledge of the village

Oh and they probably were sneeking into the golf courses they certainly had no money to join. And they all seemed to be very good at playing with 1 club.
