    John White.
    White, born on this day in Australia, opted to represent Scotland at International level.
    He is a former world No1 and is known for being one of THE hardest hitters of the ball in the sport of Squash.

    Mike Zagorski.
    Born on this day, Zagorski became a 2x US National Track Champion and a 16x Hawaii State Champion.

    Jackie Paterson.
    Paterson beat the world flyweight champion, on this day.
    The Ayrshire Boxer was the first Southpaw to be World Flyweight Champion.
    By successfully defending his British flyweight title, twice, he also won a Lonsdale Belt outright.

    BOXING.
    Jim Watt.
    One of Scotland's greatest ever Boxers, Watt, retired on this day after losing his World Lightweight title
    to Alexis Arguello, in a 15 round decision in London. Watt retired with a record 38 wins (27 by knockout).
    He had also won the title, a record by any Scot, 5 times. He was defeated 8 times (3 by knockout).
    Like many retired Boxers, Watt now earns his living by doing TV work & after dinner speeches.

    RUNNING.
    Joseph Laughlin Stewart.
    'Lachie', born on this day, is a former distance runner.
    His Gold medal performance in the 10,000 metres final at the 1970 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh,
    is rated as one of THE most memorable moments in Scottish sport.
    He out-sprinted the Australian runner, Ron Clarke, to win Gold on the first day of the games,
    shaving 20 seconds off his previous best.
    Clarke was a multiple world record holder and overwhelming red-hot favourite to win the race,
    but Stewart had other ideas.
    Stewart held numerous titles & records throughout his career and eventually took his rightful place in the
    Scottish Sports Hall Of Fame.

    22nd June 1973.
    CYCLING.
    Aileen McGlynn.
    Born partially sighted on this day, she went on to become a Scottish Paralympic Tandem Cyclist.
    She joined a cycling club at the age of 14 and hid her disability from her club mates. Eventually they found out
    for themselves and have been fully supportive ever since. She also became a patron of an organisation called
    'Crank It Up'. Their aim is to provide cycling for people of all abilities.
    She is the proud owner of 3 Gold and 1 Silver medal, along with various other titles & records.
    And as if that was not enough, she has a degree in Mathematics, Statistics & Management Science.

    Ian MacIntosh Black.
    Born on this day, Black is a former swimming champion and BBC Sports Personality Of The Year.
    He has 4 Gold & 2 Silver medals to his credit, along with several records to his name.
    He is also a retired school teacher with an M.A. and a Certificate in Education.
    His ancestors changed the family name, from MacGregor to Black, because of it's association with
    Rob Roy MacGregor. They took the name Black from their hair colour.
