I'm sure you will recognise the Saltcoats harbour backdrop.

P.T. that one would have been like a boot lace when you were swimming.

Neil, I noticed you are using a fixed spool reel, in your photo. When I last fished, many moons ago, I preferred the multiplier reels, both for boat and beach. Are they out of favour now? or do most people use the fixed spool in general.

Chris, the photo is not very clear with regards to the equipment I was using. My reel was and still is a multiplier, I cant see past the "ABU" make from Sweden. The majority of anglers I've met in my travels use multipliers, there is still one or two who use the fixed spool ,but this is a very small minority .

Whn I first looked at the photo I thought it was a fixed spool you had but on closer inspection (poor eyesight) I see it's a multiplyer.
Like yourself I couldn't see by abu. I had a 9,000 myself. I also had a mitchel garcia 624 boat reel which was really good.
I don't know what happened to them. Probably loaned them out .

I remember many years ago fishing from where the gully used to be. I tried to cast out as far as I could, but got a "burd's nest" and the line broke, the weight must have went about 300 yards. I heard a voice from behind me saying "You can fairly get them oot" It was Gus Wyllie who had been standing watching me.

I've had a few burds nests in my time resulting in a "snap aff". On occasion this malfunction would create a loop that caught your thumb, I'll tell you, you didn't shout out " o' jings ".
The multipliers produced now run like Swiss watches and have magnetic breaking systems. 8)

I have posted the 1st photo before as the Yellow Isle. I have been corrected by my son, it was next door at Killantringan Lighthouse.
