P.S. Methylated Spirits, I used to get it from the Chemists in Ardeer next to the station gates, it had to be signed for. What was that all about, is there still some monitoring system in place.

It was meant to introduce some control over the sale of Meths LP - as it was a popular tipple for some people. I think you still need to sign for meths if you buy it at the chemist. I believe the next step after meths was Morgans rum - but I've never met anyone who moved on from the meths stage.

Meg, I was more of a filtered "Brasso" man. The boot polish was too much hassle, melt, filter, drink. Mind you, when nature took it's course, WHAT A FINISH.

Not quite Irvine bay but, I thought local sea anglers might enjoy these.

What kind of fish are they Neil?

Morag, the larger fish are Barracuda, the smaller one is a Spanish Mackerel, It had fantastic colours when in the sunlight. Unfortunately I didn't have the option of returning them to the sea. The skipper and deck hand kept them, I really didn't mind, I knew they would be used to feed family or sold on to subsidise their income. I'm not to sure what that income would be when they rely on tourists chartering their boat. I do know that the workers in the tourist industry earn approx £ 20 a month.

Whilst looking for "Scottish Fishing Records", for information for another thread I'm doing on this forum,
I came across this link.
It is of no use to me because the dates are not 'specific' (It only gives the years), but I thought that it may
be of interest to you guys on this thread. I was also hoping to come across some Threetowns Records but
without success-so far.
