My dad, who started his career at sea at 14 on his uncle's trawler, and who loved fish, wouldn't touch mackerel. He said they were rubbish fish that would eat anything and everything, even stuff no other fish would eat... so ah'll skip the fish course, ta very much! An'' ah'll need tae scrub the tiara noo...when ah get it back

Morag, you are correct in what you are saying of the older generations perception of this fish. It would attack any moving object i.e. a bare silver hook or one adorned with the silver paper from a fag packet. It's one of the cleanest fish in our seas, It's a hunter, not a scavenger. I'm sure it wouldn't reject a wee nibble at your tiara if it was presented in the right fashion.
