there is mining at auchenharvie but I think it is the other side of the road, afaik west kilbride kids still go to ardrossan. The ideal is for St Matthews to be renamed 3 towns comprehensive and end seperate schools but we all know the Winton have more chance of beating Barcelona 8.0 in the europa leage final. both schools have a capacity of about 3k each so yes it is crazy to have both open at the same time, plus both were built in the 70's (well the new bits at ardrossan) and have flat roofs with the usual problems. wonder what will happen to the old building at ardossan, that should be listed

On the subject of the winton, Winton Primary along with Argyle must be the only surviving buildings from the late 1880's

This isn't for the benefit of their pupils, this is for the benefit of their budgets - shout NO NOW.

Now you're in dreamland, Alan; can't see that happening. And even if it was that would be no protection from demolition; there are a number of buildings locally, still named on the official list , that in real life are no longer with us.

And fond of the old building as I am in a nostalgic way, in my heart of hearts I have to admit it's not really distinguished enough to qualify ; it has a certain traditional dignity about it, but it was pretty tired even forty years ago when I was there.

yeah listed buildings mean nothing these days unfortunately

besides winton primary is a far nicer building, one thing if they ever tried to shut winton I would be chaining myself to the gates

Knowing north ayrshire council and the Irvine bay lot, the school will be built in Saltcoats, after all what have they done for Stevenston.

Your right nothing in stevenston its a shame really bad,

like a lot of towns in north ayrshire there is hardly anywhere were you can go and have a good decents days shopping. dalry, beith, kilbirnie, kilwinning is just as bad, nothing,

Irvine the shopping centre shops starting to go down hill mind you still few good shops.
kilmarnock and ayr are ok as well, but seems to be you have to travel further and further to get decent places now a days.

And if you are ever in stevenston on a wednesday or saturday afternoon i go visit eldery relation all the shops are closed down. shame. horrible looking now.

    Hi there,

I think it would be fantastic if the new super school was built on the land that used to house the Kerelaw residential and secure unit. There is enough space to build a antastic sports complex as well. This would also utilise the land and prevent all the youngsters hanging about the area at the weekends drinking and causing trouble for the residents of Campbell Avenue. The investment of a new building project in this area would also create jobe that the destruction of Kerelaw lost for the local economy.

I would love to see this happen but I doubt it will .

    :hi:

BroonGibb, I'm sure that the land you mentioned belongs to Glasgow Corp.

For any of you who haven't already heard or seen the reports, here's confirmation that the scheme has been granted the funding to go ahead; now all they have to do is decide on the details, and where to build :

Yes I'm sure your right, I think some sort of amicable agreement can be made, however Glasgow have just announced that they must save 5o million in the new financial year so that knocks the deveopment of the Kerelaw site on the head.

surely even from a logistical perspective kerelaw would be a nightmare, bussing in kids from west kilbride, ardrossan, saltcoats and the bottom end of stevenston, could the streets actually cope?? my money is on the school being built at auchenharvie, possibly keeping part of ardrossan academy too as the 3g pitch there isnt that old and from memory the gym block had a indoor 5 a side pitch that could be laid with 3g, build another 2 pitches on the grounds and it could be a good sports centre for the town
