Meg, Op shops are Opportunity shops - charity shops run by the churches, Red Cross etc... The Vinnie he refers to is St Vincent de Paul Society's op shops.

Vincent De Pauls nickname is part of an Australian thing taking the piss out of fancy boutiques and posh shops by attributing fancy names or Frenchified pronounciations to less fancy plebian establishments. There is Vinnie the Taylors, Tarjay (for Target a cheap Woolworths type shop), Kay Marr (Kay Mart) Coll-ess, (Coles). etc Wee Ali

Thinking what a lovely night we've just had - we are just home after our annual visit to the St Andrew's Night concert in the Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow - with Phil Cunningham and Ali Bain, The Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Dougie McLean (of Caledonia fame), the Scottish Youth Pipe Band and, a surprise appearance by Alistair Campbell - yes he of the Tony Blair circus - playing bagpipes and being filmed for a Sky Arts program due to be screened at a later date. Stonking night!
