Brilliant, Graham. Love to see such things posted to the forum. Those valve casings in the first photo are similar to the ones we used to cast in Winton Foundry, Ardrossan. Though the ones we made where all for Clyde shipbulders such as Barclay & Curl, Harland and Wolfe and Drysdale pumps of Yoker. :)

    Retsum,

Great photos. I recognise your grandfather from the second one. Didn't he live in the house in Dalry Road immediately adjacent to the factory? This being the case I remember your grandmother too; also your mum and dad and sister Leslie, all from going in and out the house. Strangely, whilst I remember you too, I'm struggling to visualise you just as readily. I think you're a wee bit older than me.

Yes, PT they lived in the house adjacent to the Metallic and, in fact, my grandfather had a gate from his back garden into the factory. My aunts still have that house. I guess you must live nearby. My brother Ian is five years younger than me and Lesley is ten years younger. From the mid sixties I spent most of my time in Glasgow and then we moved to London 1970.

    Retsum,

I was actually going to mention the gate from your grandfather's garden into the Metallic. That's how I best remember him, going to and fro. I was Rowanside Terrace and you, correct me if I'm wrong, were Linn Road, along towards Coalhill place. Again, correct me if I'm wrong but your Dad was a joiner and invariably wore a skip bunnet when working; a nice, friendly man, who would say "hullo son" rather than boot your behind or chase you from the many boyish pranks we used to get up to.
