VivAyrshire, I think the name you are looking for is " space hoppers"

And if you really want to relive your childhood you can still buy them. A word of caution however, like roller skates, pogo sticks and tin cans wi bits o`string that you can use as stilts, a thorough risk assessment and health check is recommended beforehand !

This from personal experience, the boy got a pogo stick about a fortnight ago and I decided to show him how to use it safely, fell of the feckin thing after three bounces, he carried on to 537, make ye sick it wid.:-(

Now where did this come from Ping!! Golden Memory

Does anyone recall or better still, recall the name of the Toy shop half way up Countess St on the same side as Veronica`s . As I recall, it sold some big stuff, but mostly it was wee cheapish pocket money toys like spud guns, slings, water pistols, tattie men .

Reason I thought of this, is I am just looking at my memory case and I discovered something that I must have had bought for me from there-photie to follow

I got my first "slug gun" in Patricks in around 1957 or 8 and the shop was just a few doors down from the countess towards the harbour.

For the life of me I couldn't think of a favourite toy. As a child paints and crayons took most of my time but they are not really toys as such. If a slug gun is a toy then I guess roller skates would be mine. We had a pair when I lived in Hawkhill pl, a cul-de-sac which was a mild hill. All the kids in the street would line up and to make things go faster, would get 1 skate and go down the hill to Morrison Ave, someone posted at the bottom to warn of traffic. We were easy pleased in those days! (btw, Chriso, I hated boys with slug guns and if they hadn't been armed would have given them what for, killing wee birds and whatever..)
