this is an emotional reaction.

Yes, the Dutch threw the Spanish out. That is not to say that, had they not done that, the Netherlands might be a much more stable and prosperous place than it is today. We don't, and never will, know. The whole of Europe might have been a much better place. One thought I might put into the argument would be that that would have precluded Napoleon getting up to his tricks, which would in all probability have avoided the two world wars last century.

History is a funny old process.

I like the story about the history professors' conference where a delegate asked a Chinese professor whether he thought that the French revolution was a success or not. His reply was that it was too soon to form an opinion.

The other side of the coin is I think it's preposterous that Scottish M.P.s get to vote on matters only affecting England but English M.P.s don't have any say on Scottish matters.
added, because the site seems to be playing up, and couldn't include before. I don't think it's so much about better / worse off as it is about subjugation..no proud race of people like to have a 'master'.

I'd rather be better off with a master than miserably independent.

There's always a master somewhere. All we ever do is change one for another. You'd change Cameron for Salmon. Who is to say you'd be better off.

As I said earlier, let''s wait, no let's insist, that these people who want our votes, (to serve their own agendas - which is not necessarily intended to benefit us, the people), set out the advantages and disadvantages of the proposed changes, WITHOUT THE EMOTION, so that we can make a reasoned and logical decision as to what will be best for the Scottish nation.

Which is why the push for the SNP to move the vote forward is wrong. All the nooks and crannies have to be presented. It's a big decision and not to be rushed. The unionist parties seem to be pushing for sooner.

And you're right, it is quite emotional as well as being tired of being treated as the (somewhat) poor relative at the feast, if it comes right down to it, I'd rather be less well off, proud and independent than comfortable but beholden..I'm funny that way! I'm a little bit stubborn, not too much, usually see both sides of an argument sometimes too much so (Libra ) I like to pay my own way, not be kept.

Between 8.45am and 9.10am I could not get onto the site but seems ok now ?

Words fail me, although not surprising.
