Bus Passes: Important Info !!

I have been hearing locally that the bus pass "system" will be changing. Seems after 4 pm, you will have to PAY to get back if you have the pass. May be just rumours, but have heard it several times now!!

Wasn't that the system a long time ago? Back in the 80s?

Anyhow, my mum and dad (both OAPs) are not impressed. They love to go to Ayr, and now will have to rush home.

at the risk of offense, I think people have got too used to freebies. Does anyone remember 'if you can't afford it, don't buy it?' It seems to me, old fogey that I am, what were rare treats are now seen as rights. If I had the use of a bus system like we had in Stevenston, I'd gladly pay full fare. As it is, as a non driver and living in California, I rely on my son to take me shopping, or whatever.

Actually, you may have a point. Getting up to four pm is still good. That said, i know locals who deal with their grand children after four pm. but, yes, it IS a world of freebies so often.

Dont know what "freebies" are Morag - we are very highly taxed, and my national insurance contributions will more than pay for a few bus rides when I eventually can afford to retire.

Living in Beith and reliant on Bus Services ,with one of the poorest Pensions in Europe,yes we should have help with travel.Some countries have free bus travel for pensioners.2 hour bus service to Ardrossan ,and Glasgow during winter.Same on a Sunday .

Would love a free bus pass in Australia. We get free public transport on a Sat and Sun if we are Seniors. Also a free rail pass (return) in Victoria once per year if you are a pensioner.

There are a lot more things to be dealt with before free bus passes for pensioners .Like Pensioners in Spain etc being given Winter Heating payment.
