I like Salmond, I think he is needed at this stage., and I really believe HE believes in Scotland and Scottish. I'm all for that. As far as pols go he's not bad..as far as Scots go that's a helluva compliment.! I like Niclola Sturgeon too..mibbe I'm getting soft in my dotage..

must admit morag, salmond and sturgeon would probably appeal to me 8,000 odd miles away :D

    When you consider the alternatives..

Heck, would you rather be in my shoes? Look who we get to choose from!! Probably another wasted vote from me for some outsider with no chance!

I spotted something a bit odd about the snp today. Whilst in saltcoats this morning, i decided to read the front page of the irvine herald. anyway, someone has written that the SNP have taken over north ayrshire council?! i mean... Eh? they are apparently in cunninghame house. anyway, if you are interested in reading more, the irvine herald is 90p. I don't understand it.

Morag, I think I've let my new-found-fame go to my head. She wasn't convinced.
Last thing I can remember, was her growling something about being delusional, before the right hook connected.
    :blackeye:

Viv, I'm not up to scratch with the 'article' that you refer to but I would hazard a guess that it's probably
something to do with the Increase in support, throughout North Ayrshire, for the SNP.
This would allow them to take FULL control of North Ayrshire Council, whereas they might have shared
power with another party or some Independents previously.
If that is the case then it will be easier for them to push policies through without any other party stopping
them. The policies that they promised the people of North Ayrshire, prior to the elections.

Morag, that was a good link in your previous post and as you said, "sez it all".
Just been hearing on the news that labour have struck ANOTHER deal with the tories.
This time It's to run a MINORITY council in Fife and If I'm not mistaken, that's the constituency of a certain
Gordon Brown. Keir Hardie will be spinning in his grave. Labour will pay for this sell-out.

Just reading an article on line about snp plans to close hunterston..... so salmond would need to fill the country with windfarms, otherwise electricity prices would be highest ever!! i mean, hunterston closing = disaster surely?

    Viv,
First of all, those results posted by LP would suggest to me that the SNP have done a deal with
the 'Independents'. They would only have to bring 4 of them on-board, to take control of NAC.
And that would shut labour and the tories out, but it makes more sense for them to get all 6
Independents on-side. Stops ANOTHER labour/tory marriage.
With some Independents 'on-board', this will ensure that certain local issues are not ignored,
which can only be good for North Ayrshire ? Time will tell.

Salmond can't close Hunterston OR fill the country with Wind Farms, he doesn't have that power.
The Scottish government, on the other hand, do. The SNP government have always stated that
they support 'energy from renewables' (not just Wind Farms), so the country will not be filled
    with these eye-sore monstrosities.
The SNP have long been against this giant polluter, that is Hunterston.
They are not alone. They are supported, in this, by various bodies & organisations such as local
community groups, WWF Scotland, RSPB Scotland, Friends of the Earth, The Church of Scotland
AND the majority of folk who live in the Hunterston area.
Jobs are important, BUT NOT AT ANY PRICE.
People will get other jobs and new jobs will be created elsewhere in North Ayrshire,
but we only have ONE environment and we have a responsibility to look after it.
Interesting to note, the only people promoting the Hunterston Issue are Labour/Tory
people and some wee Tax dodger who lives on the Isle of Man.
    These make Interesting reading:

    Re Hunterson;

Just back from Reykjavic, Iceland, (great place BTW); population +/- 380,000.

They told us that 99% of their electricity is from renewables, (geothermal and hydro-electric). They don't have a single coal / oil / nuclear generating station. They laugh at the idea of nuclear.

There is a lot of talk there about laying a cable from Iceland to Scotland. They are not kidding !! The problem is that the technology is not up to it yet; but they're working on it.

John, last week on the Scottish news it featured Alex Salmond in Norway discussing this very subject. My interpretation of the proposal was the creation of a "international grid" taking in other Nordic countries, the cable would be connected to Scotland from Norway. The project was presented in a very positive manner until Alex stated " it would mean cheaper electricity for consumers", this scared me a wee bit, I was led to believe that the cost of living in the Scandinavian countries would frighten you. It makes you wonder who it would benefit.
