    Hi Neil,

not sure I follow your logic, re the cheap electricity.

Iceland, while a bit more expensive than NL, was not outrageously so. I've been around a wee bit, and I have never come across a more positive folk than the Icelanders. They admitted to being ashamed of what their banks did to us, and swear that they will be back on top very soon, with all debts paid off. They actually made shame-faced jokes to us about it.

Energy costs there, after capital outlay, are zero; it all comes out of the ground, (steam), or over a waterfall, (water - would you believe). In Rekjavic, they actually have pavements underground-heated with hot water in the winter, - which is not all that more severe than in Scotland.

    JD.

January 2012 and the Labour Party leaders were united in standing AGAINST
a pay increase for public sector workers.
They stated that "Labour faced a big task to regain economic credibility".
This drew severe criticism from Labours usual backers, the Unions.
They accused Labour of "emulating the Tories on MANY issues".
Labour leader, Ed Milipede, said that his party had to show it was "fiscally credible".

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-16565866

SO, what's the story with Aberdeen then, Mr.Milipede ?
Just 4 months later and we have Labour & Tory councillors awarding themselves
5% pay Increases BEFORE a single stroke of work has been done.
More double standards from the unionist Labour Party and It's members.
Mr.Milipede, the Labour Party have never had "fiscal credibility".
Remember, It was yous who wrecked our economy. It all happened under Labours watch.

No surprise to see the BBC sweeping this under the carpet.
If it were the SNP, It would be front-page news for a week.

    NOTICE:
For anyone who may not be aware.
The Yes for Scottish Independence campaign was launched on Friday 25th May 2012, in Edinburgh:
    http://www.newsnetscotland.com/index.ph ... f-support-
They are trying to gather 1million signatures of support and I would strongly urge everyone who believes in
Scotland controlling her own destiny, to go to the link and sign-up:
    www.yesscotland.net

Meanwhile, here is another very good reason, to add to the list, of why Scotland should break away from this
farce of a union. A union that NOT ONE SINGLE SCOT VOTED FOR.
    http://www.newsnetscotland.com/index.ph ... er-hampden
Believe me, NO Englishman, unionist or anyone else will dictate to me how and/or when I will fly my saltire.
But there is a FAR BIGGER issue being hidden in amongst all of this. The issue of how being a part of this
farcical union STIFFLES the hopes, aspirations, talents and skills of young sporting Scots.
Scotland should be a Independent country with our OWN sports/athletics teams.
Or, will the unionists try and tell us NO, don't be silly, you's will benefit more as part of a team "GB".

We are in this union due to several traitors selling Scotland to the English, behind the backs of all Scots.
They did this solely for their own financial benefit. Time to take our country back.

Alex Salmond stated that the introduction of a "international grid" would reduce the cost of electrical power for the people of Scotland. Whether the source is wind, water or steam there's a cost to deliver and maintain this power for domestic or industrial use. I'm not a businessman/economist but I wonder how, in basic terms, the employees in the renewable industry in Scotland would be paid if the income from this resource had been drastically reduced, it doesn't sound like good housekeeping to me. ?

You have just over a week to decide on this topic as to which way you would vote. But nearer the time we intend to have another more revealing poll as to how locals and expats feel. See this post within this topic.

We have OIL. They would attack us for that. I have found out the snp could approach NATO for help with defending the country. as to currency? there doesn't seem to be a proper idea in place. i have also now been asked about the ability to receive bbc services, including radio, which come from England, if we all seperate? Never considered that one before.

Viv - I have listened to the BBC World Service all over the world - and watched BBC World on American, New Zealand, Japanese, Sri Lankan and European TV - the BBC is certainly a service we wont live without!!!

As for oil - dont count too much on what's off the East Coast - it's fast running out. There seems to be a lot more under ground up in the highlands but mainly under grouse moors and the 5% who own 95% of Scotland's land would certainly not enjoy their huntin' shootin' fishin' being interfered with.
