    Further to above.
John Workman Snr was born 1775/1776, son of Robert Workman of Saltcoats and Elizabeth Boyd. He married Helen Millar of Saltcoats and went to Belfast in 1800 with twenty-thousand pounds from his father to set up in business. In Belfast, he lived at 9 Donegal Square East, a terrace which he built. His younger brother Robert (1790-1860) joined him in 1807 and they set up as muslin manufacturers with a warehouse in Upper Arthur Street. This Robert was the father of Rev. Robert Workman of Knockbreda.

John Workman had two sons; Robert (1804-1870) married Jane Service (1815-1895) in 1833. They had 15 children, most of whom survived and married. John (1807-1867) married Maria Watts (1807-1871). They lived at Edgecomb, Strandtown, Belfast.
