Very good contact details SC. Thank you very much.
Excellent info Hughie and shows exactly what I said in earlier post. Completely contradicting what I had
found yesterday. And my Info came from a "supposedly" reliable & big player in the "Ancestry" business?
Grrrrrrrrrr Sometimes I wonder why I even started this. Never mind, I will use every bit of info & help
    that I can get.
Very much appreciated SC & Hughie.
    Thank you.
    Richard.

    Huey1:
Thank's for that tip-off. Will probably give it a try.
I think I came across that MJ Connelly & son in the early stages of my Connelly research BUT discounted them
because I had them in various places of Lanarkshie,(Bernard was a miner) and then a short spell in Stirling
before returning to Lanarkshie. I came across a few Mary Jane & Bernard Connelly's that were not mine.

BUT here is the interesting bit; My Connelly's had a big family. The 1911 census revealed that 5 had died
sometime between 1901 & 1911. I found 4 of the dead children but one escapes me still.
I'm just wondering if there is any way MJ could have been visiting friends/family in Ireland when the child
she had with her died & she buried him over there?????????? I will go back to those censuses to see if that
    could have been possible.

    Thank you for that.

    JD:
Found some interesting info and site that may be useful to you and anyone else researching Irish lines.
This site seems to combine & confirm all the info I found, with that supplied by you, Hughie and
    Sweet Caroline yesterday.
If I have my geography correct, I think counties Armagh & Louth border each other ? If that is the case
then there is a good chance that the following info may be relevant to you ?
Nevertheless, if not, It seems a good site for Irish research and full of GOOD information.
    On Google, type in:
    http://www.censusfinder.com/ireland.htm

scroll down to the county Armagh section then click onto:
    1901 County Armagh Census Strays.
At the top of the page there is some census info on a Donnelly family that may or may not be related
to you. At the bottom of the page there is some info that mentions county Louth. Again, this may or
may not be useful to you ? It was all gobbledegook to me but maybe you can make more sense of it ?
    Richard.

    Richard,

thanks. This could be a gold-mine.

Those Donnellys are unlikely to be directly related to us. They're in Belfast and Tyrone. My grandparents came over around the 1880's.

I'll have a good look round in there at my leisure and I'll let you know if I find anything.

    Thanks again.

    JD.

I'm afraid that unless you can somehow discover where in Ireland your ancestor came from you have almost zero chance of going any further. All early Irish records relate to place and there are generally a limited numbers of names. So there could be dozens of Bernard Connellys all over Ireland. Without a place name you can rarely be sure which one is yours.

www.familysearch.org has lots of records - perhaps too many - but I did find a Bernard Connelly, born to Charles Connelly and MAry Corrigan at Hamilton Lanark on 19th AUgust 1872. I have no idea if this is relevant but it may be worth a look.

As for Irish records there are the Tithe Applotment Books from c.1835 which give the names of landholders at that time. But of course both the Tithe Books and Griffiths Valuation only contain the names of thiose who owned or rented land. If an ancestor was just a worker, or someone who had no land, he would not have been included.

There are also many churches with parish records. My mothers parish in Leitrim has births marriages and deaths (not many of the latter) from 1823.

    Best of luck

Thank you very much for all that information, Jim.
Especially the info on the Connelly's, as they are, indeed, my Connelly's.
One of the 'missing' children was given the name; Mary Corrigan Connelly.
So she was obviously named after her paternal grand-mother.
And as far as I can gather, so far, Charles Connelly originated from Monaghan.
And so too, possibly, did his wife (Mary Corrigan) ?
    Thank you once again, Jim.
