    Old Milestones Locally

    Postby Hughie » Thu Feb 21, 2008 11:58 pm

Anyone know where all the old local milestones are located in the and around the three towns? The only one I can think of at the moment is the one embedded in the wall of the old miners cottages on Boglemart Street in Stevenston - can't recall what was on it though.

I can't quite remember but seems to me there was one on the road out of Stevenston to Saltcoats that gave the miles to Saltcoats, think it was from the Cross out rather than the High rd.

I've never seen the one at South Beach, I thought there were only three remaining:

    Boglemart Street
    Nineyards Street
and North Crescent Road (on the soon to be demolished bridge).

See this thread for previous discussion.

    Thanks Hahaya, and Jimmy,
    I enjoyed this site.
Next time I'm home for a visit , I'll have to keep my eyes open for the milestones.

Following my post of the milestone photographs on the "Shell Bridge" topic, I attach photographs of the milestone in Hill Street, (not Nineyard Street), Saltcoats. This stone is on the boundary wall of the former Mission Coast Home. The Stevenston "Stone", which is, in fact, Cast Iron, is situated in Boglemart Street, opposite The Grant Arms.

Hi, In McSherry's book of old Saltcoats there is a photo of the Mission Coast Homeand, it states its in Nineyard Street.Does any one know when it was changed to Hill Street. Regads, Sam.

It still is Nineyards Street as far as I know. Hill Street doesn't start till the junction with Bradshaw Street (where the Windy Ha is).

I apologise for my mistake. It is indeed Nineyard Street (from an old Saltcoats street plan).
