Anyone know where all the old local milestones are located in the and around the three towns? The only one I can think of at the moment is the one embedded in the wall of the old miners cottages on Boglemart Street in Stevenston - can't recall what was on it though.
i did a wee quiz about the milestones when i posted the photos of the bridge last summer, theres the one in bogemart st,the one in nineyard st is on the old mission coast home wall, and theres the one on the shell bridge, it was when i done the quiz that someone said there was one at south beach, but ive never been able to find it. There use to be one at the old "Toll stores",at the junction of Eglington Road and Dalry Road.(The Toll store is now the "Alpine Store".I bet Hughie can tell me why it is now called the Alpine Store(,another we historical question Hughie).Might as well fling in a couple more.Where were "Vernon Terrace and Inglefield Terrace. ??
Following my post of the milestone photographs on the "Shell Bridge" topic, I attach photographs of the milestone in Hill Street, (not Nineyard Street), Saltcoats. This stone is on the boundary wall of the former Mission Coast Home. The Stevenston "Stone", which is, in fact, Cast Iron, is situated in Boglemart Street, opposite The Grant Arms.
