Here's a retirement picture of Miss Catherine Miller from Ardrossan Academy in June 1973.She's shown with the rector Mr Partridge and the then deputy head teacher Mr J Allan.

A lovely lady who I remember well, because she was my form teacher in second year. But she only spent the last four years of her career at the Academy, and she'll be much better known to people who were at Saltcoats Public/ Jacks Road, where she taught for the previous fifteen years, and where she had been a pupil herself.

There may even be a few who remember her from Stevenston High, where she spent the fifteen years before that; she had a career of forty-two years in teaching all told. A few more details from the article that came with the pocture...she was also youth organiser for Dalry during the war; served on the Church of Scotland General Assembly Committee for the education of youth; and was much involved with schools drama locally.

I remember Katie Miller really well. She was such a good English teacher and she was my form teacher at both Saltcoats Secondary and Ardrossan Academy Schools. She was the only teacher that I got on with. She lived round the corner from my gran's and she had her little black mini and she would stop and offer me a lift. I took it once and never again. She was a terrible driver and did not know what slow down meant. She also had a twin sister who had dementia and she had to look after her. Once or twice her sister set the house on fire by leaving the chip pan on. Yes I remember her well. She spent her last days in a nursing home and my cousin worked there and she told me that she remembered me. Must have made a lasting impression on her.
