Ellen, thank you....this is fabulous!! :) I think that you are right, as Robert & Mary also had Robert in Stevenston in 1712. William's birth year in the IGI (only on the record for his marriage to Mary) has been given as being about 1712. John Finnie & Jean Boyd had an unnamed son in 1711, but this is the one that has no details on the record, and I'm not sure what happened to them after that. I shall check. :) I love the fact that there is a Wilsonne in there, Ellen...and a Margaret at that!! :) William's 4th daughter was Margaret. And surely Grissall must be Grizel's cousin? It's all wonderful, Ellen....I'm over the moon here!! :) Lynne. :)

Oh wow, Ellen...I wonder where these fit in? Again, as you say, another Jonet, not to mention the Margra...getting very close to our Margarets?!! :) Do you know, Ellen, I have been chasing the Boyds via Ann for donkey's years, and not once did it ever occur to me that there was such a strong connection to the Boyds in William's family...although I must admit that I had wondered how he knew Ann. This is all wonderful stuff, Ellen...thank you!! :) Lynne. :)

Ardrossan Castle Curling Club was instituted in 1830 and played its games on a pond at the Mill Farm, Ardrossan. One of the Club’s claim to fame is to have been the first curling club to play an international match when the members crossed the sea to Ireland in 1861 to play a game in Belfast. Unfortunately a thaw set in and the game had to be abandoned. Two Irish rinks came to Ardrossan later that year and we have a record of two Ardrossan rinks going in the 1870-71 season to Ireland where they had a friendly game on Seaview Loch, Belfast. This fixture was reinstated in the 1990s when the Irish Curling Association was revived and it continues to this day.
Over the years the club has played at Crossmyloof, Ayr and Irvine but at present games are played at Harvies Ice Rink in Stevenston.
However, Harvies is about to have a major refit and for the season 2009-2010 games are likely to take place at The Magnum in Irvine.

Here's an interesting map of Ardrossan circa 1769 which shows "THE MILL ARDROSSAN". The map lacks the accuracy of modern publications but pinpoints the premises nevertheless in the area we now associate with the Mill Farm.

The map was referred to, I understand, by those considering the murder of the Earl of Eglinton by Mungo Campbell on the North Shore in October 1769.

Ellen, thank you so much for this. :) An update on my Ann: I'm expecting a package any day now, Ellen, from Saltcoats, which apparently has some information on Ann. I'm so excited here, and will let you know if there's anything that we don't already know in there. :) Lynne. :)

    Lynne,
Here's a later map showing MillHouse and Milnfarm were one and the same.
