The picture of the construction work reminds me of an unpleasant saunter in Stinston in 1980. I worked with Strathclyde Roads and had to don the waders and saunter down the burn with tape measure and other survey equipment and then prepare drawings for the strengthening project. We entered at the upstream end at Townhead and worked our way under the cross to the outlet at Fullarton Place.

Wondered if anyone remembers when the fountain in the paddling pool was missing a part as in this picture.

Can anyone tell me what the grey hut/building was?

Is the wee hut the one that was used for the putting green or the car parking?

Yes Little Plum, family pic in Sunday finest.

Wellparkno9, I don't think it was car park or putting green which would have been behind the camera. This hut seems to be near the path that led to the beach and the low footbridge over the burn.

I don't remember the paddling pool as being as grand as this. When (and why) was it demolished? Stevenston town council and others have a lot to answer for!

It would be early 60's and something makes me think it was not too long after it was opened.

Before submitting my post I had early to mid 60's but removed the "early". The reason being, the buildings on the left hand horizon. These consisted of, the two story engine house, the gun posts, known locally as the jumps, the 3 wa's, and a building over what we called the "mine shaft", they were next to the wee bay. I had a couple of pals who were using the gun posts as boat houses, poss 70's. Trying to remember the time line of their demise had me bamboozled. As for the grey hut, I've no idea, here's a stab in the dark, could it have been the workman's hut when the bridge over the burn was upgraded. ?

Workmen's hut was one of the possibles I had and is why I also thought the timing related to completion of the pool. Was the footbridge upgrading done around the early 60's? Another question is re the building of the big shelter overlooking the swings - was this part of a general upgrade of the play area?

The other long shot for the hut was deck chair hire but thats probably more Scarborough than Stevenston

killiejok, I think you are a wee bit out with this date . The centre pillar of the fountain was never blue to my knowledge. Some time back on the saunter I posted a photo of the pool, the fountain was complete, if my memory serves me correctly, it was a cream colour. Ross Sturgeon has posted the same image in the photo section.( I think)
