    Saltcoats 1901 Census

    Postby Bartmac » Mon Oct 24, 2011 6:25 pm

    Hi,
In the 1901 census it shows my Grandfather and family living at 37 Quay St, along with five other families on the same page, what sort of dwelling was this, and are there any photos. It also shows it as having one room with a window! Any help appreciated.

    Thanks, John.

The Scotlandspeople census, the name in question is my Grandfathers William James McLelland. I see your located in Beith, my father was born in Beith (Reform Street) and my Grandfather was married in The Manse in Beith.

Hi Bartmac, Yes, looks like they shared the house 37 Quay Street. Not unusual ,as it still goes on "Multiple Tenancy".
Reform Street is where our Healthy Centre is ,if you want to do a google walk. The manse was in Glebe St.Had to be sold as it became to dear to heat and maintain. Also quite away from the High Church in Barmill Rd.

My Scots ancestor live mainly around Saltcoats, although Ellen lives in Edinburgh and George lives in Sydney.
Walpole St Peter is (I think) the closest place to Spalding.

Bartmac,That 3 Storey building on the left could be 37.Big enough to house 6/7 families.
