In the third stage of the international golf foursome between Braid and Herd. Vardon and Taylor played over St Anne's, the Scots couple played brilliantly and won by five holes, thus reducing the English side's lead of 12 holes to seven. Braid and Herd in their two rounds scored 74 and 71 while their opponents' scores were 75 and 74.

On Ardrossan Bowling green the vice-president's prize final resulted:- John Barr, 21; Robert Bradley, 12.

Ardrossan Co-op Society are starting a singing class for children.

Mr William Gemmell jr, Oxenward, Kilwinning, won first prize for his penstemons at Glasgow Flower Show.

The funeral of Mr John Morris, town clerk, Largs, took place on Monday.

On Dalry Bowling green John Friels won the Share competition final, and Messrs Robert Malcolm and William Graham won the final for the President's  and Vice-President's prizes.

On Ladeside of Kilbirnie bowling green Hugh Hamilton beat William Muir, 21-12 in the final of the Moorpark Cup and in the President's Prize final William Steele beat James Smith by 21-19.

The result of the flower pot competition in front of Messrs Knox's houses at Avil's Place, Kilbirnie, was: 1, John Riddet; 2, James Gray; 3, David Dick and Thomas Clark, equal.

In Beith Golf Club monthly medal competition A Buchanan (11) 78 and R Dunlop (15) 78 tied.

On Lamlash golf course Mr GL Bailey, Ardrossan, holed the first hole (150 yards) in one stroke.

The Crook and Plaid Lodge of Shepherds is one of the wealthiest in Ayrshire. The funds stand at £2000 and the lodge is worthy fully 20/- in the £.

Mr William Lees, son of Mr William Lees, Stanley Road, Saltcoats, has been appointed cashier of the Bank of Los Banos, California. He served his apprenticeship with Mr James Cook, solicitor, Ardrossan.

Mr Thomas McMeekin, who has been ticket collector at South Beach Station, Ardrossan, has been appointed stationmaster.

In the final of the President's Prize competition on Ardrossan bowling green, JM Comrie beat Hugh McColl 21-12.

Winners at Ardrossan Model Yacht competition were:- Lucinda (A Hughes, Ardrossan); Sarah (William Crawford senior, Ardrossan).

Mr John Heron, a native of Kilwinning, has died at Harrington, Cumberland at the age of 75.

At a Grand Quoiting Exhibition Game under the auspices of Dalry Quoiting Club, Tom Bone, Glenbuck, beat Tom Stewart (Kilmarnock). by 18 shots. The game took place at Templand Ground and Dalry Silver Prize Band discovered music during the afternoon.

On Beith bowling green, Mr R Ferguson beat Mr I Andrew in the final of the President's prize.

Matthew Bruce announces that he is retiring from the bakery business which he has carried on for over 42 years at Montgomery Street, Irvine, and that his son, John Bruce will continue in the business.

An Irvine note says that ninepence worth of painting on each of the Irvine street lamp posts has given a brighter look to the thoroughfares but some artistic souls complain that it gives the town too much of an ice cream shop look.

The death has taken place of Dr Barnardo, the founder of Homes for Boys.

Mrs Dickie, who for 73 years successfully managed the farm at Girthill, Ardrossan, died on 19th September at the age of 31? years.

The Free Church, Stevenston, has presented a call to the Rev Samuel McCune, Magherafeit, Co Tyrone.

At Dalry RSF Volunteers Cup meeting Sergeant Henderson won the three principal prizes, Captain McCosh's Cup , Col Gow's Cup and mercantile prizes.

Mr FW Baxter, FRCO, organist, Parish Church, Dalry, was presented with the choir with a handsome music cabinet on his leaving to fill a similar post in Kingsbridge, Devonshire.

The building of the Roman Catholic School at the foot of Lynn Street, Dalry, is to be proceeded with at once. The architect is Mr Armour, Irvine, and among the contractors are Mr Allan, R Dunbar, Kilbirnie; Mr Aitken, Dalry; Mr McConnell and Murray and Connelly. The cost will be about £1500.

Nurse Helen Brown of Saltcoats has arrived at her station in Uganda and her first job was to attend to the injuries of an officer of the King's African Rifles who had been badly mauled by a lion.

The death is announced of Mr Alexander Kerr, who served his apprenticeship in the law office of Mr James L Bailey, Ardrossan, and later was on the staff of the Clydesdale Bank in London.

Countess Street, Saltcoats, has been greatly improved by the removal of the old buildings which projected on the line of the roadway between the Town Hall and the shop ends and the erection of new up-to-date premises.

The number of pupils enrolled in Ardrossan Academy Higher Grade Department is 151 compared with 114 last year.
At a meeting on Friday it was agreed to form Stevenston Literary and Debating Society, and Mr Edwin Isherwood was appointed president.

Mr John Boyd, pupil teacher in Kilwinning School has been admitted as a 1st Class scholar to the Glasgow Established Church Training College.

Mr James Brown, Annbank, opened his campaign as independent Labour candidate for North Ayrshire at Kilbirnie on Friday night.

The method of putting tar on the Ardrossan streets, it is complained, is damaging carriages and cycles.

Mr Hugh Wallace, Saltcoats, has taken over the printing and stationery business carried on by Mr McMorrow, Girvan.

Saltcoats Literary and Debating Society officials include:- president, John Millar; secretary and treasurer, Mr WM Miller, assistant secretary, Mr Dugald Campbell.

Mr TM Cockburn, formerly of the Ardrossan & Saltcoats Herald, has been appointed managing editor of the Vancouver Herald.

A Sabbath school union for Saltcoats has been formed.

The rainfall for Saltcoats for September was 2.27ins.

Steamship almost run ashore at Stevenston on Monday night. It steamed direct for the ironworks lights and came within hailing distance of the beach.

Miss Nan Boyd has been presented by members of Beith Dramatic Company with a gold watch on the occasion of her leaving the district.

The staff of Messrs Love and Williamson, Beith made a presentation to Mr Robert Ritchie, who has secured an appointment with a Glasgow law firm. Mr CB Ramsay handed over the gift.

At Dalry Homing Society fifth annual supper songs were rendered by Messrs S Eagleson, J Wallace, J Morton, W Ovenstone, M McGookin, J Henderson, T Telfer and T Taylor.
