Miss Mary Harvey, Ardrossan, has been appointed ex-pt in
West Kilbride Public School.
The choir of EU Congregational Church, Saltcoats, has presented a
golf-mounted fountain pen to Mr John Miller who is leaving for New South
Wales.
A Saltcoats Licensing Court Mr George Muir, Dumbarton, was granted
transfer of certificates held by Mr C Mitchell for premises in Bradshaw
Street.
The first race for the Club Cup at Ardrossan Model Yacht Pond was won by
"Lucinda" (A Hughes)
Mr William Somerville, assistant teacher, Stevenston School, has completed
his course for MA degree.
A Kilwinning native, Mr William Service, MA, BSC, FEIS, JP has been
elected president of the Educational Institute of Scotland.
The death has taken place of Mr John Crawford, a native of Dalry, who was
a Crimean veteran.
On Fairlie bowling green Mr Daniel Muir beat Mr Angus McLean in the final
for the silver-mounted bowls presented by Mr C Wilkie.

The ship Glencairn (Captain John Nichol jnr) has had a
smart passage to Western Australia, arriving a fortnight ahead of time.
The steamer Rumlost (Captain Baillie, Ardrossan) has been discharging her
first cargo of logs at Ardrossan this week.
Ardrossan Parish Church Women's Guild made a presentation to Miss Isaac of
Parkend, the secretary, who is leaving to take up work in connection with
Foreign Missions of the Church of India.
The new hall adjoining St Andrew's Episcopal Church, Ardrossan, was opened
last night, Lord Eglinton performed the ceremony. The contractors were:-
John Inglis, Henry Wallace, Charles Price, Murray & McCallum and John
Allan.
Mr John Simpson, Calderwood, Beith, whose death has taken place at the age
of 89 years, was one of the first members of the Beith band.
The call by Courthill UF Church, Dalry, to the Rev John Hunter, MA. has
been sustained.
The following have been appointed as pupil teachers under Dalry School
Board:- David McLeod, Sharon Street, Thomas Oliphant, Highfield; Jessie
Cunningham, Blair Works Cottage; Jessie Scot, James Street.

A Saltcoats man, the Rev WM Tait who is in the foreign mission field at
Salonica has passed with much credit an examination in Judaeo-Spanish.
The Lifeboat Lodge, IGOT Ardrossan has attained it's 35th anniversary.
The coming of age of Lady Mary Hamilton was marked by great celebrations
in Arran. The island was en fete and at the hall in Brodick Castle there
were scenes of grandeur and gaiety.
In a friendly football match with Kilwinning Amateurs, Auchenharvie
Athletic won by 3-0. The scorers were Kilpatrick (2) and West.
Mr JH Waters, ARCA, Newlands, Glasgow has been elected organist and
choirmaster of Dalry Parish Church out of 63 applicants.
The property at the Cross, Dalry (at the corner of Main Street and
Courthill Street) has been purchased by Mr Thomas Boyd, contractor, for
£765.
The office building of Glengarnock Old Factory has been rented by Dalry
School Board as a temporary school for the excluded children in that
district of the parish.
Ardrossan Model Yacht Club's race for the Barbour Challenge was won by
"Lucinda".

Ardrossan Co-op Society, which has a membership of 1310, has declared a
dividend of 2/9d in the £.
At the municipal elections, John Harvey, George Barrie and Hugh Flinn were
returned in Ardrossan and Messrs Alex S Millar, John Christie and William
McGavin in Saltcoats.
In the leaving Certificate examination 29 pupils of Ardrossan Academy
passed, one in honours grade.
The annual concert and dance under the auspices of the TM Healy Branch of
the Irish Forresters Benefit Society, Saltcoats, took place in Saltcoats
Town Hall, The Rev Father Cronin presided and Mr P McAdam was MC at the
dance.
The successful exhibitors at the Crystal Palace Poultry and Pigeon Show
included William Stevenston, Beith, Diamond Jubilee Cup for the best
fantail; John White jun. Beith, silver medal for tumblers, John Reid,
Stevenston and AM Reid, Kilbirnie.
Mr James Knox, Kilbirnie, has been conferred on him the honour of
knighthood.
Mr and Mrs Andrew Fryer have received presents on the occasion of Mr
Fryer's leaving the Eglinton Ironworks Store, Kilwinning.
Mr DL Smith, Alyth, brother of ex-baillie William Smith, Ardrossan, has
patented a tipp-waggon for use on railway and dock construction.

Irvine Town Council has appointed Deputy Dean of Guild Kerr to be Dean of
Guild.
Judge Harvey was appointed Provost of Ardrossan in succession to Provost
Young.
Ardrossan Amateur Dramatic Company presented A Life's Revenge. The cast
included Messrs JT Woodburn. H Skillen, RE Smith, Charles Magee, P Mallen,
J Anderson, TC Henderson, JC Currie, JR Miller, A Higgins, AS MacKinnon
and E Simpson.
The obsolete guns of the battery on the Inches, Ardrossan, have been
dismantled and removed to the scrap heap.
The death has occurred of Mrs H Robertson, Cunninghame, Auchenharvie, at
the age of 86.
Bro Hugh Gillespie has been elected RWM of St John's RA Lodge, Ardrossan.
At Whiting Bay Mutual Improvement Association meeting, Mr R Clark Orr
presided and Mr John Sinclair and Mr Alex Martin took part in the debate.
Mr James Glen, booking clerk, G&SWR, Stevenston, has been promoted to
Newcastle-on-Tyne.
On Monday afternoon the ceremony of turning on the steam to a large new
engine for supplying the blast for the copolas in Ardeer Foundry was
carried through by Mrs Alexander McGregor of Broompark, Ardrossan, in the
presence of an invited company.
