Notice is advertised of intentions to apply for Provisional
Order in connection with Ardrossan, Saltcoats and District tramways
scheme.
From December 1 steam rail motor carriages will make no fewer than nine
runs each way between Ardrossan, intermediate stations and Kilwinning and
two extra runs will be made between Ardrossan and Largs. The cars will
seat 50 passengers of one class.
Stone throwing by schoolboys in Stevenston Public School playground
resulted in a boy named Brown having one of his eyes so severely injured
that he had to be removed to an infirmary.
Members of Stevenston Literary and Debating Society on Wednesday evening
gave a representation of Julius Caesar. The leading parts were taken by Dr
Roberts, AW Donaldson, Mrs Roberts, Mrs Roberts and Miss Kater.
The Rev John Hunter, MA, the newly inducted minister of Courthill Church,
Dalry, was introduced to his new congregation on Sunday.
Miss MS McKinnie, the only lady teacher of dancing in Ayrshire, opens
classes at Kilbirnie on Tuesday.

Under the auspices of Irvin Dramatic and Musical
Association a highly successful concert was given on Friday evening in the
Institute Hall. Mr Johnston, Mr Mitchell and Mr Bryson, secretary, were in
charge of the arrangements.
Lieutenant-General Sir Archibald Hunter is to be promoted to the rank of
General.
The Arran hills had this week their first coating of snow for the season.
The four-masted ship Annandale arrived in Ardrossan on Wednesday with a
cargo between 3000 and 4000 tons of nitrate of soda for Nobel's Explosives
Company. This is the largest cargo of nitrate soda ever brought to
Ardrossan by one vessel.
The season's prizes in the Erskine UF Church, Saltcoats Golf Club were
presented on Monday to the winners, Rev Mr Purvis, Mr JG Caldwell and Miss
Marie Guthrie.
Stevenston Savings Bank transactions for the past year numbered 1937 and
the sums received from depositors totalled £209 3s 8d.
Miss White, Eglinton and District Public School, Kilwinning, has been
appointed to Blairgowrie School.
In a debate Kilwinning Literary and Debating Society decided by a majority
of nine that the Franchise should be extended to women. Mr T Troddan and
ex-Baillie Hamilton took the affirmative and Messrs Robert Baillie and
William Steel the negative.
Mr Ebenezer Hogg, proprietor of the Imperial Hotel, Kilbirnie, and posting
master, died on Tuesday in his 66th year.

The death took place on Saturday of Captain John Marr of
the City Line. he was born in Troon in 1841 and retired in 1901 into
private life in Irvine.
Mr James Campbell, writer, Saltcoats, who for 51 years had been collector
of rates at Stevenston, has resigned the office and Mr James Campbell jun.
has been appointed.
Mr Alex Mackinnon, MA, student, UF Church College, has begun work as
congregational assistant in South Beach Church, Saltcoats, for the winter
months.
On the occasion of his marriage, Mr David Wyllie of Messrs RL Alpine & Co.
Ardrossan, was presented with gifts from the friends connected with the
Harbour.
In regard to Ardrossan Academy's decision not to build in order to provide
the necessary accommodation at the Academy, the Dept state that unless
additional accommodation was provided Mr Lords would remove the Academy
from the list of schools having a recognised higher grade department. The
Board's plan for meeting the need was, the dept said, a retrograde step.
Stevenston Gas Company Ltd has erected a new gas holder and tank of 50,000
cubic feet capacity. At a ceremony on Tuesday. Mr Adam Wilson turned the
gas from the holder on the mains.
As a result of enquiries regarding a Kilwinning right of way, the Parish
Council have sent a report to be placed before the Northern District
Committee.

Saltcoats Town Council have decided that all corner lamps
in the streets be lit at night, Kilwinning Town Council have agreed that
lamps be lit until 11 o'clock on Saturday nights instead of 10 o'clock as
on other nights.
The North Ayrshire Bachelors' Ball was held in the in the Town Hall,
Saltcoats on Friday evening. Mr W Moore Alpine was secretary, and Kay's
Orchestra provided the music.
The marriage took place at Phillipshaugh, Selkirkshire, on December 5,
1905, of Lieutenant-Colonel Aylmer Gould Hunter-Watson, RE, DSO and Miss
Grace Steel, daughter of Mr Steel of Phillipshaugh. After the ceremony the
bride and bridegroom left for Hunterston. The inhabitants of West Kilbride
turned out en-masse to welcome them and their carriage was drawn by a
selected team to Hunterston. later a huge bonfire was lit on the top of
Goldenberry Hill and a happy evening was spent in song and dance at
Fence's by employees and friends to the number of 100.

Mr W Dunn, designer, Caledonian Cabinet Works, Beith, has won £10 offered
by Ayrshire County Council for designing.
John Fox, blast furnaceman, Kirkland, was fatally injured while engaged in
the employment at Glengarnock Iron Works.

At a concert in St Andrew's Episcopal Church hall,
Ardrossan, the programme was sustained by Misses A Brown, M Cook, AE Cook,
A Hogarth, and B Mordue and Messrs GL bailey, JA Cockburn, JM Wilson, W
Wilson and A Turnbull.
Christmas toy and gift advertisements show the following prices - Working
trains from 6 1/2d; dolls from 2 1/2d; boys carpenter sets from 5 1/2d,
charming picture books from 2d; lovely Christmas cards in box with
envelopes.
Duncan and Co. Ardrossan, offer carriage paid a Christmas box (containing
two bottles famous liqueur whisky, one bottle invalid port wine, one
bottle ginger wine and 1lb of tea) for 12/-.
Eglinton Ironworks Co-operative Society is this year paying to members a
dividend of 2/9d per £.
Three players (two of Ardrossan Celtic and one of Ardrossan Winton Rovers)
were ordered off in the League game at Winton Park last Saturday. Rovers
won 5-1.
Kilbirnie Parish Church was re-opened last Sunday after being closed for
about seven months for a thorough renovation.
Miss Mary law, Kilbirnie, has won two gold medals in singing competitions.
Kilbirnie Juvenile Amateur Dramatic Company gave performances on four
evenings last week of the drama Uncle Tom's Cabin in the Good Templars'
hall.
Dalry Chess Club (D Campbell, James Gorman, James Mildoon, Andrew Aitken,
J Gibson, G McConnell, D McLeod, S Craig, JD Gordon, G Ballantyne) lost to
Kilmarnock 7 1/2 to 8 1/2.

Mr James brown, Labour candidate for North Ayrshire, addressed his first
meeting at Ardrossan on Monday. Mr Robert Smillie also spoke and a large
number of questions were answered by the candidates.
At the quarterly meeting of the Ayrshire Co-operative Society at
Stevenston , the chairman of the local society welcomed the delegates. Mr
George Seymour, Kilwinning, was nominated as president and Mr G Hughes,
Kilbirnie, was elected a member of the committee.
Mr RS Workman, retort ??ther, Saltcoats, has completed the building of a
new double retort bench to his own design for the Newton-on-Ayr Gas
Company.
Messrs Robert Howie & Co. iron Founders, Kilwinning, gave notice that on
and after this date workmen's wages will be paid by day or hour if
required.
Dalry School Board have appointed Miss Agnes Cameron< MA. Lockerbie as
assistant teacher in the Public School in succession to Miss Wright,
resigned.
Dalry Quoiting Club have appointed as office bearers:- Hon Pres, Dr W
McKenzie, pres George Godden?; vice pres, Mr William Aitken, secretary, Mr
John Mclean; treasurer, Mr William P--?.
Mr Thomas Simpson of Yonderfield, West Kilbride, has taken the lease of a
farm near North Berwick.
Old Spierians Literary Society concert included a one-act farce Turn Him
Out, played by Miss H Cochran Patrick; Miss Jessie Melville; Mr J
Melville; Mr GGH Johnston and Mr H Melville.
Mr A ----? gold medalist, Shawlands Chess Club, played simultaneously
seven members of Ardrossan Chess Club and won seven of the 14 games
played.
The death was announced of Mr Robert Montgomerie, New Street, Dalry, in
his 86th year. he was for a considerably Inspector of the Poor, under the
old Parochial Board.
