November 23, 1906
Saltcoats North Church has received a gift of £120, the donor’s intention being that a vestry be erected.

The miners of Auchenharvie had a mass meeting on Thursday to consider the question of an increase in wages.

The ironstone workers of Dalry agreed to remain idle and to set unitedly with other districts of Ayrshire in protesting against the refusal of the employers to grant an increase.

Mr John Beveridge Hunter was unanimously elected Provost of Kilwinning at a meeting of the council on Friday.

In an advertisement "a box of 12 lovely Christmas Cards with envelopes to suit" is offered for sale at 6 1/2d per box.


November 30, 1906
The order of the Churches Commission allocating St Bride’s Church, West Kilbride, to the United Free Church became operative on Wednesday.

Sergeant Morrison from Auchinleck has taken charge at Stevenston Constabulary Station.

Mr Charles Garvice, famous author and lecturer gave an address in the Conservative Hall, Stevenston, last night.

Mr Archibald Campbell, son of Captain Colin Campbell, Ardrossan, has passed his examination as mate for foreign trade.


December 7, 1906
A Slump in Christmas presents of the edible variety is predicted as a result of a recent sensational murder case at Cumnock where a young lady died after eating poisoned shortbread sent from Kilmarnock.

A former organist of Park Church, Ardrossan, Mr JS Carrick is now Professor of Music in an importand American college.

The new Orange Hall, Glengarnock, was opened last week by Lady Gertrude Cochrane Patrick, wife of the Member of Parliament for North Ayrshire.

A new gasometer was inaugurated at West Kilbride, Mr William Adams of Overtoun and Auchenames, chairman of the company performed the opening ceremony.


December 14, 1906
Ex-Provost Blakely, Saltcoats, has presented a silver cup to the Ardrossan Academy Cadet Corps for competition in shooting.

Ardrossan, Saltcoats and Stevenston Choral and Orchestral Society recently gave Sir Edward Elgar’s Banner of St George in the Town Hall, Saltcoats. The chorus and orchestra of 120 performers were under the baton, as usual, of Mr GW Burgoyne.

Ardrossan Amateur Dramatic Company presented The Ticket of Leave Man in a successful production recently.

The congregation of Stevenston Parish Church held a three-day bazaar in the Town Hall, Saltcoats to raise money to provide Church Halls.

The heritors of Ardrossan Parish Church met recently to "complete an arrangement already made to build a new Parish Church on a new site in lieu of the present church and without assessment".


December 21, 1906
A number of vessels are being built by the Ardrossan Dry Dock and Shipbuilding Co Ltd for shipment abroad.

Messers G & J Burns have decided to have a daylight between Ardrossan and Belfast on certain days during the Christmas and New Year holiday season.

Ardrossan Dean of Guild Court recently passed the plans of an extension to the Higher Grade School at Ardrossan Academy.

At the distribution of prizes for the annual shooting competition of E Company Saltcoats, 1st Vol. Battalion, RSF, the Cup and Gold Badge was awarded to Private E Niven, Second was Private J Lockhart.

Mr Alexander McGregor was elected chairman of the Stevenston Parish Council for the ensuing year, and Mr Charles McCallum was appointed to the Council.

Local grocers advertise Scotch whisky for sale at 3/- per bottle, guaranteed five years old.


December 28, 1906
The fourth annual social and concert of Saltcoats Total Abstinence Society was held in the Lesser Town Hall, at which the artistes were Miss L Carruthers, soprano; Miss J Jeffrey, contralto; Mr W Adam, tenor; Mr JT Woodburn, bass a, and Miss Grace Hunter, elocutionist, An address was given by Rev JR Spotiswood.

Four rinks of the Ardrossan Castle Curling Club played for the Baird Cup at Mill Pond, the winners being DB Haining, J Crawford, W Bryce and GO Baird.

The rainfall in Saltcoats in 1906 according to figures compiled by Mr David M Scott, amounted to 38.87 inches. Rain fell in the town on 161 days of the year.

Mr CO Lundholm, with his accustomed liberality, donated £10 for distibution amongst the poor of Stevenston.

Mr Matthew McLellan, Stevenston, a pupil of Mr Parker, Saltcoats, appeared as a tenor vocalist at a city Hall singing competition in Glasgow and gained a place among the finalists.

Mr Weston of Hunterston, West Kilbride, entertained the workers on the estate and their children, at which function a dramatic entertainment was given by several lady and gentlemen friends of the hostess.
